Step 1: Create your character.
I am giving specific instructions for character creation, the base rules are more flexible but less generous. See Custom Character Creation for instructions and the official rules 2 - Character Creation for specifics.
Step 2: Playing the Game
- Tests are 1d100 rolls against a Target Number. You want to roll under the target number to succeed.
- If you roll under your TN, the first digit (tens place) of the number you roll is your Degrees of Success.
- If you roll over your TN, 1 + the tens digit of the difference between your TN and roll is your Degrees of Failure.
- When you attempt an action, you test a Skill.
- Skills are ranked from 0 to 5 (Novice to Master).
- You get a +10 bonus to your Target Number for every rank you have in that skill.
- If you try to use a skill you are not trained in, you take a -20 penalty.
- When you roll a d100 and get one of your Lucky or Unlucky Numbers, that is a Critical Success or Critical Failure respectively.
Step 3: Combat and Wounds
- At the start of a Combat encounter, players will roll initiative by rolling [1d6] and adding their Initiative Rating.
- During fights, you spend Action Points to perform tasks like attacking or casting spells.
- If your take damage in excess of your Wound Threshold, you suffer a Wound and roll a Shock Test
- Wounds give you a -20 penalty to all rolls.
- You will drop to 0 Health Points through blood loss in 5 rounds if you do not get Healing or first aid.
Step 4: Luck Points
- You start every game session with a number of Luck Points equal to your Luck Bonus.
- You can spend a Luck Point to reroll a failed test.
- You can also spend one to get a better result on a success, or to change the story slightly in your favor.
